The village of Choroń is located south-east of Częstochowa, near the town of Poraj. The quarries of Choroń used to belong to manorial property and in almost all cases have been mined until the 1950s. The limestone found there belongs to so-called Jurassic Cuesta and is classified to Oxfordian. Quite large aggregations of fossils can be found there, mainly including ammonites and belemnites, but also quite sizeable gasteropods, brachiopods or nautili. Sponges typical of the Oxfordian are also present.
